What is the federal Pell Grant program?
The Federal Pell Grant, the largest federal grant program for undergraduates, is intended to aid students from low-income households by providing financial assistance without the obligation of repayment, except in specific circumstances, contingent upon the demonstration of financial need through the Free Application for Federal Student Financial Aid (FAFSA®) form.

To get a Pell Grant, just fill out the FAFSA® form. Keep doing it every year you're in school, showing you need financial help to stay eligible for federal aid.
How do I check the status of my FASFA form?
This article applies only to the 2023–24 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA®) form.To check the status of your 2023–24 FAFSA form, do the following:
- Log in to fafsa.gov.
- Select “Start or Edit a 2023–24 FAFSA Form.”
- Select whether you’re a student, parent, or preparer.
- Select “Continue.”
- Your FAFSA status can be found on the “My FAFSA” page, which you’ll see right after you log in if you’ve started or completed a FAFSA form.
Note: If you submitted a paper FAFSA form, you can check the status of your application online once it has been processed (roughly 7 to 10 days from the date mailed).You can also check the status of your FAFSA form by contacting the Federal Student Aid Information Center at 1-800-433-3243.To check on the status of financial aid being disbursed (paid out)to you or your account, check with your school’s financial aid office.
